A family on the Vineyard

Raised with time, attention and love.

Christine B. is the breeder behind Martha’s Vineyard Bernedoodles. Her breeding dogs are family dogs, and puppies are born and raised in the home with attention from the whole family, especially the granddaughters.

Christine grew up around her mother’s German Shepherd litters. Having puppies around the kitchen made such a lasting impression that she began breeding to share that experience with her own children.

The program focuses on health and temperament. The puppies are standard size, with size varying according to their parents. Coat colors can include chocolate merle, brown and white, sable, and black and white.

What coat colors might I see?

Colors may include chocolate merle, brown and white, sable, and black and white. Colors vary depending on the parent dogs.

Ask a question

Health and one-year guarantee

Your puppy has been found in good health by the breeder’s veterinarian. The puppy is guaranteed for one year from date of birth against hereditary disorders detrimental to the puppy’s health, including a condition requiring euthanasia or death from a hereditary or genetic condition.

The breeder must be informed of problems before action is taken. A replacement puppy requires a written statement from a licensed veterinarian stating the cause of death or defect.

After the date of purchase, the purchaser handles veterinarian costs. The new owner must have the puppy checked by their veterinarian within 3–5 days to verify health. The puppy is up to date on core vaccinations at sale; the buyer receives vaccination records and is responsible for maintaining the immunization schedule.

The breeder’s obligation ceases and the contract is void if the buyer does not continue the vaccination series, see a licensed veterinarian, provide medical treatment, or if the puppy is abused or neglected.

The puppies have been on a two-week deworming program since birth. Deworming must continue with the buyer or their veterinarian. The guarantee excludes coccidia, Giardia, and upper respiratory infections; notify the breeder if any of these occur.

Pet placement and lifelong commitment

Puppies are sold as pets only, not for breeding or show. The owner agrees to have the puppy spayed or neutered at the appropriate age.

Adopting a puppy is a long-term commitment. The first few months can be challenging while a puppy learns what is expected. The breeder encourages setting boundaries early, sharing activities, using love, positive reinforcement and consistency, and seeking help from books, trainers or other resources when needed.

If an owner is unable to keep their pet, contact the breeder. She will try to help find a new home. No refunds will be made.

For the current litter, ask Chris for the written health guarantee and current price. Consult your veterinarian about your puppy’s health, diet, medications, and care.

Pickup location and arrival

The breeder lives on Martha’s Vineyard and also has a home in Canton, Massachusetts, where families may meet. Contact the breeder for pickup details. The address is provided after a meeting time is scheduled.

Your puppy’s “doggie bag”

Families receive a doggie bag with a piece of the litter blanket to provide a familiar scent, treats the puppies have not tried before, and some of their food: Taste of the Wild Prairie for Puppies, with added probiotics for the first few days.

Start with about one-third to one-half cup of food three times a day, gradually increasing the amount and reducing feeding frequency as the puppy grows. Use the food bag’s feeding chart as a guideline.

Feeding and digestive upset

Stress may cause diarrhea or affect appetite. Offer small, frequent meals and call your veterinarian if symptoms persist or you are concerned.

Because diarrhea and medication needs vary by puppy, call your veterinarian before changing food or giving any medication. For puppy-care questions, you can also email Chris at info@bernedoodlesmv.com.

Helping your puppy adjust

The first few days, especially nights, can be stressful while a puppy adjusts to sleeping without littermates. Wear an old T-shirt before pickup and place it in the crate with the litter blanket so your scent can be comforting. Adjustment usually takes about three to five days.

To help prevent separation anxiety, help the puppy learn to be alone once relaxed at home. If crate training, start with a short, positive experience before bedtime; a treat or safe chew can help. Always remove the puppy’s collar before placing them in the crate.

Final payment

Bring final payment in cash, a bank check made out to Cody Pachico, or via Venmo. Cody will provide Venmo information. Personal checks are not accepted.

I look forward to meeting you soon!
